In 2002, a significant event shook Chennai. The India Church Leaders’ Conference and Miracle Healing Prayer Festival took place. Rev. Dr. JaeRok Lee led this event. It drew attention from Christian networks worldwide. Reports came from the USA, UK, and Canada.
The festival received coverage from various media outlets. India ANI, Russia, Australia, and Spain sent reporters. Jain TV, SS Music TV, Win TV, and Bangalore City Cable TV broadcasted it live across India. ANS in the USA, UCB Online in the UK, and Canadian Christianity also provided web broadcasts.
Rev. Lee emphasized that praying to idols is worthless. He stated that only God can hear prayers. He assured the crowd that God would perform miracles for those with faith.
The event saw countless people accepting Jesus Christ. Many experienced healing. It occurred despite restrictions in Tamil Nadu. An ordinance forbade forced conversions. The celebrations encouraged the Christian community in India.
Over four evenings, people sought miracles on the beach. Many received Christ as their Savior. Others were healed after Dr. Lee’s prayers.
Estimates suggest that over three million people attended the crusade. On the final night, 1.5 million people gathered on the beach. A local pastor described it as the greatest display of God’s power ever witnessed in India. The city of Chennai was shaken by God’s power.
Rev. Owen Roberts witnessed people healed. He declared that Chennai was blessed by God. He anticipated more miracles. People in wheelchairs were healed and walked.
The Tamil Nadu ordinance did not halt the crusade. It only addressed forceful conversion. Attendees from other faiths who wanted baptism needed to provide an affidavit. The Gospel was preached without forcing anyone to convert.
Following the service, Dr. Lee expressed gratitude. He noted the large gathering and the many healings. He believed God controlled the weather.
The president of the Association of Christian Churches in Russia invited Dr. Lee to hold a healing crusade in St. Petersburg. An elder from Dubai’s King’s Revival Church International hoped for a crusade in Dubai. He believed Dr. Lee would be well-received there.
