North Salem Baptist Church is also located in Port Wentworth. It celebrated 195 years since its founding in 2018. The church was chartered April 13 1823. It started with 70 members. Eight generations have grown up with the church.
Pastor Quillian Mercer has led North Salem Baptist Church since December 2014. He noted the amazing work God has done. He also emphasized the need to continue pressing on.
North Salem Baptist Church unveiled artwork. It celebrated the special anniversary. A larger-than-normal Homecoming Choir fielded hymn requests.
Since 2014 North Salem had experienced a decline in membership. But the church has been in a period of steady growth. Mercer has baptized 16 people. These people have accepted Jesus as their Savior. The church has received over 80 new members. These members include adults and children.
In 2017 North Salem Baptist Church took a mission trip. They went to Whitley City Kentucky. They also donated over 150 backpacks. These were for the Backpacks of Hope ministry. The ministry is through the Georgia Baptist Mission Board. Vacation Bible School numbers have risen each year.
