Gazing upon the Ponte di Lucernate, imagine cyclists speeding across, their wheels humming against the pavement. This bridge, more than just a concrete structure, represents a connection, a vital artery in the lifeblood of Rho. Ponte di Lucernate isn’t simply a bridge; it’s a spoke in the wheel of a larger urban transformation, a project known as “Ponti e Cerniere” (Bridges and Hinges). This initiative, fueled by European Community funds channeled through the Lombardy Region, seeks to revitalize the areas of Lucernate, San Michele, and San Martino, knitting them closer to Rho’s city center. The project encompasses a network of improvements. These include cycle paths, the redevelopment of Via della Vittoria, and a key focus on three specific areas: Via Tevere, with its schools and the Mast; Via Calvino, slated for a new sports facility; and the parks of Via Magenta and Via Prati. Ponte di Lucernate plays a crucial role in these plans. A planned cycle path will utilize the Ponte di Lucernate, arching over the railway lines to connect Steccone and Lucernate, eventually reaching the park on Via Magenta. Furthermore, the bridge is central to addressing the current pedestrian bridge closure near Via Magenta. Due to structural issues and low usage, the existing bridge will be removed and replaced with safer, ground-level crossings. Ponte di Lucernate stands as a symbol of Rho’s commitment to its citizens. A testament to its forward-thinking approach to urban development.
