In 1927 the university found its main home. It moved to Piazza Leonardo da Vinci now Città Studi. This move marked a significant chapter. The university was renamed Regio Politecnico meaning Royal Polytechnic. After World War II the term Regio was dropped.

The Politecnico expanded over time. New campuses opened across Lombardy and Emilia Romagna. These include Como Lecco Cremona Mantua and Piacenza. Each campus contributes to PoliMi’s diverse academic environment.
