Locals might remember helping with the festival meals, serving food and washing dishes. The temple grounds are meticulously kept. A newer building at the back houses the nuns’ quarters and the ancestor hall, Bao En Tang. Inside, memorial plaques, some decades old, adorn the walls. A mini hamper of toys might mark a child’s memory. A notice inside emphasizes respect and reverence. It requests silence, vegetarian offerings only, and no liquor, cigarettes, or burning incense papers. It encourages chanting “Namo Oh Mi Tho Fo” for enlightenment. Poh Lum Fatt Yuen stands as a testament to peace, remembrance, and community spirit. It’s a place where the past whispers to the present. A place where generations have found solace and connection.
