From its humble beginnings the school quickly established itself as a basketball powerhouse. In 1963 just five seasons after joining the Suburban I league Plymouth Whitemarsh won its first state championship. This victory ignited an enduring passion among students and community members a fervor that continues to this day.

Under the legendary Coach Henry Stofko the program soared. For 32 seasons Coach Stofko led the Colonials to an impressive 583 wins. He secured eight league titles six district finals and four district titles. He even guided the team to two state finals appearances in 1963 and 1964. Names like Shantz Pergine Szczesny Morgan and McCarthy from the Stofko era still resonate with lifelong fans.

The winning tradition didn’t stop there. When Albert Angelos a former player under Stofko took over in 1990 the success continued. In seven years his teams boasted an impressive 82% win rate. This era brought another state title in 1997 and national recognition for players like Mike Melcher and Abdul Collier. The 1997 and 1998 teams even earned top 20 rankings in USA Today.

Current head coach Jim Donofrio who took over in 1998 has upheld the legacy. His 27 seasons have added 537 wins to the Colonials impressive record. This includes numerous league and district titles and another state championship in 2010. Players like CJ Aiken and Jaylen Bond Pennsylvania Players of the Year in their respective senior seasons have further enhanced the school’s reputation.

Plymouth Whitemarsh High School’s boys’ basketball program currently boasts over 1200 wins and a 72% overall winning percentage. This incredible record includes 54 district tournament appearances 23 district semifinal appearances 13 district final appearances and 7 district titles. The team has also made 28 trips to the state tournament achieving 9 semifinal appearances 4 championship game appearances and 3 state titles.
