Founded in 1864 Pleasant Green Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith perseverance and community. Imagine Reverend Butler Harper a man of God. He saw the spiritual needs of the people. In 1865 they built a church on Tenth and Findlay Streets. The congregation thrived under Reverend Harper’s leadership. The founding members included deacons like Alex Hunt James Davidson and sisters like Seray Davidson and Eliza Farley. Their dedication laid the groundwork for what Pleasant Green Baptist Church is today.
Years later Reverend B R Reid a remarkable preacher and builder guided the church. In 1923 the church purchased land at 1421 Waller Street. They constructed a new edifice. This building still stands as a powerful symbol of Pleasant Green’s enduring presence. It’s a lasting tribute to Reverend Reid’s legacy.
The church continued to grow. In 2003 Reverend Clarence Parker led the church. He introduced new programs ministries and physical improvements. He expanded outreach locally and globally. After many years of service Reverend Parker and his wife Patricia moved on to a new chapter in their lives.
In 2021 Reverend Antonio Neely and First Lady Minister Veronica Neely became Pleasant Green’s new leaders. They brought decades of experience to the church. Their ministry promises a bright future for Pleasant Green. Their arrival marked a new era of spiritual guidance and growth.
