Standing tall, the Pinneberger Wasserturm commands attention. It rises like a historical beacon. This isn’t just a tower. It’s a monument to Pinneberg’s past.

The Pinneberger Wasserturm was built in 1912. Its design mirrors the Husum water tower built a decade earlier. Today, it serves as a unique residential building.

Observe the tower’s structure. Its conical shaft is solid brick. The base forms an octagon. Above, it transitions to a round shape. Notice the overhanging water tank. It features cladding and a tiered conical roof. Slate covers both. The tank was an Intze-type support floor container. Impressive!

The Pinneberger Wasserturm reaches 40.85 meters high. Originally, the shaft had three stories. The Union-Eisenwerke established their own water supply in 1899. This served their Pinnebergerdorf factory. Their first water tower was part of the factory complex.

In 1912, Herman Wupperman GmbH built this larger tower. They included their own waterworks. The town and the company agreed to share the facilities. The company provided at least 600 cubic meters of water daily. The town built the pipeline network.

By 1952, the town acquired the tower and waterworks. The company faced financial troubles. However, the tower only supplied water to the town until 1956.

Today, Stadtwerke Pinneberg supplies drinking water to over 53,000 residents. They use twelve regional wells. The waterworks on Peiner Weg and in Quickborn-Renzel are important.

The Pinneberger Wasserturm gained landmark status in 1988. It became a protected cultural monument. In 1994, the town sold the tower. The Kosankes bought it for 50,000 euros. The property covered 860 square meters.

Due to landmark restrictions and high renovation costs, the town practically gave the tower away. The new owners converted it into living spaces. They also included a heating and installation business. The conversion cost 250,000 euros. Six intermediate ceilings created 500 square meters of usable space. An elevator now reaches the sixth level.

The exterior of the Pinneberger Wasserturm remains largely original. Only windows were added to the tank cladding. This preserved its historic character. The Pinneberger Wasserturm stands as a testament to innovation. It shows how history can be repurposed for modern living. Its transformation from industrial infrastructure to residential space is remarkable. It is a piece of Pinneberg’s skyline.
