Gazing at the Pink Line, can you believe it’s the longest single metro line in all of India? The Pink Line, also known as Line 7, stretches an impressive 59.24 kilometers. It loops around Delhi, almost mirroring the Ring Road, and carries countless passengers daily between Majlis Park and Shiv Vihar in North Delhi. The Pink Line isn’t just about length. It’s a crucial artery connecting various parts of this sprawling city. It boasts 38 stations, 26 elevated and 12 underground. Think about it, this line links up with almost every other metro line in Delhi. Need to hop onto the Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Violet, or even the Airport Express Line? The Pink Line has you covered. It even connects to major railway stations like Hazrat Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar Terminal. It conveniently links to the inter-state bus terminals too. This metro line is a marvel of engineering. It reaches its highest point at Dhaula Kuan, soaring 23.6 meters above the ground. This section passes over busy flyovers and even another metro line, the Airport Express Line. Now, for a contrasting fact, the Pink Line also hosts the smallest metro station in the country, Ashram station. Imagine the engineering feat of squeezing a station into a space of just 151.6 meters, much smaller than the usual 265 meters. The Pink Line’s story is one of phases. The first section opened in March 2018, connecting Majlis Park to Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus. The final link, between Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake and Mayur Vihar Pocket I, opened in August 2021, creating a complete loop. This line was not without its challenges. Land acquisition issues, particularly at Trilokpuri, significantly delayed the completion of the final section. For a time, the Pink Line operated as two separate segments. The Pink Line isn’t finished growing either. An extension to Maujpur – Babarpur is in the works. This extension will not only expand the line but also establish one of the world’s longest ring lines, transforming Delhi’s metro network.
