Devoted followers gather here at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. It stands as a testament to faith and community since 1947. Originally meeting in Bellaire City Hall with a small group of 48. Pilgrim Lutheran Church quickly grew.
Early services moved to the Harris County Mary and Martha Chapel. This was at the Bayland Burnett Home for Girls on Chimney Rock. The congregation’s growth spurred a move to Old Richmond Road now Bissonnet. A new facility was dedicated there in August 1949.
Pilgrim Day School began in September 1954. Today, it is known as Pilgrim Lutheran School. The school continues to provide excellent education. It serves children from 18 months through 8th grade.
By 1955 a new chapel was needed. The church had continued to expand. The final services at the Old Richmond Road location happened in August 1959. Pilgrim Lutheran Church then moved to its current five-acre site.
The sanctuary built in 1959 now serves as Pilgrim’s Parish Hall. The church and school thrived in the following years. A dedicated sanctuary became essential for the growing congregation. Twenty-nine living charter members had waited sixteen years. The current sanctuary and office building were dedicated in December 1963.
The spectacular pipe organ was installed in 1977. It has 1433 pipes. This marked a new era of musical worship at Pilgrim. The church embraces its rich Lutheran musical heritage.
Additions were made over the years. The sanctuary needed updating. A renovation project in 2010 refreshed the Youth Room Sanctuary and Narthex. New materials and furnishings were used. The Sanctuary received a new altar area and pews. The Narthex facilities were renovated.
Pilgrim Lutheran Church continues to serve its community. Its mission is to equip and empower people to become devoted followers of Jesus. The church focuses on bridging gaps and restoring broken relationships. It walks with people as they seek to become more like Jesus. They imitate His words works and ways through discipleship.
Pilgrim is focused on serving the people in Bellaire and Meyerland. Service is seen as an act of worship. The church values generosity and love. Members give their time talents and money. They follow Jesus’ example.
As Lutherans Pilgrim Lutheran Church centers on Jesus Christ. Salvation is possible only through Him. They emphasize “Christ alone”. They believe salvation comes from God’s mercy. It is not earned through good deeds. This is known as “Grace alone”. Trust in Jesus is necessary. This trust is created by the Holy Spirit through Scripture. Simple trust in God’s promises secures salvation. They call this “Faith Alone”.
Lutherans base their beliefs on the Holy Scriptures. They believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It is the only revelation on beliefs and practices. This principle is “Scripture Alone”. Pilgrim Lutheran Church stands as a beacon of faith. It welcomes all to experience God’s love and grace.
