High above Monterrey’s sprawling cityscape stands Pico Norte. A challenging climb awaits those who dare to conquer its 1820-meter peak.

Pico Norte is the highest point of Cerro de la Silla. This iconic mountain is a natural monument. It’s a symbol of Monterrey. The mountain is shared by three municipalities. Guadalupe claims the largest portion. Monterrey and Juárez share the rest.

Imagine the ambitious project of the 1960s. A daring aerial tramway was planned to carry people swiftly to Cerro de la Silla’s summit. On June 2 1961 the tramway opened. Tragically it also closed that same day. A devastating accident ended five lives. Among the victims was the engineer who designed the tramway. Only the upper station remains a haunting reminder of that fateful day.

Today hikers make the arduous three-hour ascent. They follow the Camino al Pico Norte trail. The views from the top are breathtaking. The panoramic vista of Monterrey spreads below. It’s a reward for the challenging climb.

Pico Norte is more than just a high point. It’s a testament to human ambition and the enduring power of nature. It’s a reminder of both triumph and tragedy. It offers a stunning view. It’s a symbol of Monterrey’s spirit. The next time you see Cerro de la Silla remember the story of Pico Norte. Remember the challenge. Remember the view. Remember the lost lives.
