The Physik-Hochhaus, located on Hermann-Herder-Straße 3, houses lecture halls, seminar rooms, and research labs. It’s the heart of the physics department, bustling with students and faculty from all corners of the globe. Did you know that the university itself is spread throughout the city? The physics department, however, is nestled within the Institutsviertel, a science district where other math and science departments reside. This creates a unique atmosphere, a microcosm of scientific exploration within the larger city of Freiburg. This building we’re standing before, the Physik-Hochhaus, plays a crucial role in this scientific community. Besides its research facilities, it offers a common room on the top floor. This space, complete with a tea kitchen and that stunning rooftop terrace, provides a much-needed respite for students, a place to relax and recharge amidst their studies. It’s also a fantastic spot to connect with fellow physics enthusiasts, sharing ideas and forging friendships that may last a lifetime. Interestingly, the university’s main buildings, including the central library, are located in the city center, less than a kilometer from the Physik-Hochhaus.
