Phường Xuân Hà

Clutching the worn map of Da Nang, I found myself drawn to Phường Xuân Hà. It’s a place brimming with stories, layered like the sedimentary rocks that form the nearby Marble Mountains. Phường Xuân Hà wasn’t always known by this name. Its history stretches back centuries, to a time when it was simply part of the Chiêm realm. As dynasties rose and fell, so too did the name of this resilient ward. From Thanh Khê under the Lý, Trần, and Hồ dynasties to Hà tây under the Later Lê, it bore witness to the ebb and flow of Vietnamese history. The very name “Thanh Khê,” meaning “blue water,” hints at the life-giving sông Phú Lộc that still flows through the area today. During the Nguyễn dynasty, it became known as Xuân hà, a name it retained even through the turbulent years leading up to 1975. That year marked a pivotal moment, the official birth of Phường Xuân Hà as we know it. Carved from the larger Hà tam Xuân district, it embarked on its own journey. The year 2025 brought another transformation. Phường Xuân Hà absorbed its neighbor, Tam Thuận, expanding its area to 1.43 km² and its population to over 40,000. Today, Phường Xuân Hà stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of its people. They are fishers who cast their nets into the East Sea and families who gather for traditional festivals. The spirit of community thrives here, woven into the fabric of everyday life.
