“Two villages nestled side by side. That’s how the story of Phường Thanh Lương begins. The villages of Hương Thể and Trung Trí once stood here.

Now you are standing in Phường Thanh Lương. It is a ward in Hanoi’s Hai Bà Trưng district.

Let’s take a step back in time. Imagine the mid-19th century. These two villages joined to form Lạc Trung. It was a commune within the Thanh Nhàn canton. That was in Hoàn Long district, Hà Đông province.

After 1954, Lạc Trung changed its name. It became Thanh Lương commune. At that time, it belonged to district 7 outside of Hanoi.

Today, Phường Thanh Lương includes more than just those two villages. It now encompasses Lãng Yên and the Phà Đen wharf. That wharf is part of the Port of Hanoi.

Phường Thanh Lương sits in the southeast corner of Hai Bà Trưng district. It is divided into 21 residential groups.

When you visit Phường Thanh Lương, you will find streets named after national heroes. Think of Trần Khát Chân and Nguyễn Khoái. You will also see names of historical places. Bạch Đằng and Thăng Long live on in these street names. Kim Ngưu, Lãng Yên, and Lạc Trung are also present.

Imagine walking a circle through Phường Thanh Lương. You would pass Bạch Đằng street, then Lãng Yên street. Next, you would find yourself on Nguyễn Khoái street. The circle continues to dốc Minh Khai and Lạc Trung. Finally, it loops back via Kim Ngưu and Trần Khát Chân.

The transport system here relies on streets, alleys, and narrow lanes. There are more than twelve lanes. Six key lanes are the lifeblood of the ward. These are 184 Trần Khát Chân, 121 Kim Ngưu, 203 Kim Ngưu, 325 Kim Ngưu, 651 Minh Khai and 51 Lãng Yên.

These lanes have changed. Modern houses stand close together. Shops offer a wide variety of goods. Yet, they retain a peacefulness that is different from the noisy city. These lanes preserve the cultural life of the people. This is a life that resists change and oblivion.

Phường Thanh Lương is an ancient land. It has many communal houses and temples that bear historical marks. There are two pagodas, two temples, and one Catholic church in the ward. The State has recognized most of these historical sites. Examples include Hộ Quốc Pagoda, Hương Thể Temple, and Lạc Trung Temple.

The ward has a comprehensive education system. It ranges from preschool to secondary school. There is one secondary school, one primary school, and two public preschools. Private schools and preschool groups also operate here.

In 2022, Phường Thanh Lương had a population of 23,038. Its area is 1.62 square kilometers. The population density is 14,220 people per square kilometer.

Looking at real estate, land prices vary. Trần Khát Chân street sees prices from 20.9 to 58 million VND per square meter. On Nguyễn Khoái street, prices range from 10.6 to 27.6 million VND per square meter. Lạc Trung street has prices between 15.7 and 40.2 million VND per square meter. Kim Ngưu street ranges from 16.1 to 41.1 million VND per square meter. Bạch Đằng and Lãng Yên streets both range from 12.7 to 31 million VND per square meter. Vĩnh Tuy street sees prices from 13.2 to 32.2 million VND per square meter.

Phường Thanh Lương. It is more than just a location. It’s a tapestry woven from history, culture, and the lives of its people.”
