Thanh Khê Đông was officially formed in 2005. It was created from part of Thanh Lộc Đán ward. This area has seen centuries of change.
Once, the land now called Thanh Khê Đông was part of the Chăm kingdom. This was during the Đường, Ngô, Đinh and Tiền Lê dynasties. Later, it became a contested zone between the Chăm and Việt people. This happened during the Lý and Trần dynasties. It was known as xứ Thanh Khê then.
In 1471, Đại Việt pushed the Chăm kingdom south. Thanh Khê became part of Đại Việt. Under the Nguyễn dynasty in 1806, the area was xã Thanh Khê. It belonged to Quảng Nam province.
In 1888, Đà Nẵng was separated from Quảng Nam. It became a French colony. Thanh Khê became part of Tourane, the French name for Đà Nẵng.
From 1954 to 1973, Thanh Khê was a khu phố or neighborhood. It was directly under the quản lý of khu Đà Nẵng. Later it was part of phường Thanh Lộc Đán. This lasted from 1973 to 2005.
Finally, in 2005, Thanh Khê Đông was established. It split from Thanh Lộc Đán. The remaining part became Thanh Khê Tây.
Today, Thanh Khê Đông sits in the heart of Thanh Khê district. It shares borders with several other wards. These include Chính Gián, Xuân Hà, and Thanh Khê Tây. It also borders Hải Châu district and the East Sea.
The ward is densely populated. Thanh Khê Đông has a high population density.
Interestingly, Thanh Khê is known as a land of learning. It has a rich cultural tradition.
In Thanh Khê Đông, a unique monument stands. It is made of bullet shells. It depicts a figure reaching towards the sea.
The ward is also tackling modern challenges. Thanh Khê is working to manage plastic waste. The district is implementing projects for environmental protection. They aim for zero plastic waste.
Thanh Khê Đông holds traditional festivals. One is the Cầu Ngư Đăng festival. It honors the sea. Another celebrates local gods and spirits. These festivals happen at the Miếu thờ Cô bác. This is also known as the Miếu thuyền or boat temple.
