Can a place truly hold the echoes of both past and present? Phuong Phuc La, a district nestled within Hanoi’s bustling Ha Dong district, offers a resounding yes. Phuong Phuc La isn’t just a collection of streets and buildings. It’s a living testament to the passage of time, where ancient traditions intertwine with modern aspirations.

Phuong Phuc La, officially established on August 23, 1994, emerged from parts of Van Yen commune and Yết Kiêu ward. The district, spanning 138.71 hectares, carries within its boundaries the stories of two former villages: Yen Phuc and Xa La. These villages, once part of Thanh Oai district, now contribute to the vibrant mosaic of Phuong Phuc La. Today, almost 30,000 people call Phuong Phuc La home, spread across nineteen residential areas.

The history of Phuong Phuc La is a tale of mergers and transformations. Originally, Yen Phuc and Xa La were separate entities within Thanh Oai district. After 1945, they combined to form a suburban town of Ha Dong. Later, in 1965, they merged with Van Quan and Mo Lao to create Van Yen commune. This commune, however, was dissolved in 1994, giving birth to Van Mo and Phuong Phuc La. In 2006, Phuong Phuc La became part of the newly established Hanoi city. By 2009, it was directly under the administration of Ha Dong district.

Phuong Phuc La is bordered by significant landmarks. The Nhuệ River defines its western edge, separating it from Nguyen Trai and Ha Cau wards. To the north lies Van Quan ward, with the 19/5 road marking the boundary. Kien Hung ward lies to the southeast, while Tan Trieu commune in Thanh Tri district borders it to the east. National Highway 70B runs through Phuong Phuc La, connecting it to the wider Hanoi region. Two historical relic sites stand within the district, adding to its cultural richness.

Phuong Phuc La’s population, now exceeding 31,000, tells a story of growth and urbanization. Its population density of 22,909 people per square kilometer reflects its increasing appeal as a residential area. The district is divided into three main population segments. The first encompasses the original inhabitants of Yen Phuc and Xa La. The second group resides in pre-existing apartment complexes, including those of the Military Medical Academy and various businesses. The third segment occupies two new urban areas developed in the early 21st century: Yen Phuc and Xa La. These urban areas provide diverse housing options, from modern apartments to villas. The Xa La Urban Area, in particular, offers a modern lifestyle with integrated amenities and a focus on safety and comfort.

The spirit of Phuong Phuc La resides in its ability to embrace the past while forging a future. It’s a place where the whispers of history mingle with the hum of modern life, creating a unique and compelling destination within Hanoi’s dynamic landscape.
