How about a journey through a place where the past and present intertwine? That place is Phường Phố Huế. It is a ward in Hanoi’s Hai Bà Trưng district.

Phường Phố Huế is not just a location. It is a vibrant tapestry woven from history and modern life. It lies a little over 3km southeast of Hoàn Kiếm Lake. This puts it near Hanoi’s city center.

Phường Phố Huế took shape naturally. It formed from three distinct areas. These are Phố Huế, Thịnh Yên and Nguyễn Công Trứ. Today, four main streets define it. They are Phố Thịnh Yên, Phố Trần Cao Vân, Phố Yên Bái and Phố Huế itself.

This ward is home to several schools. These include Nguyễn Công Trứ Kindergarten and Đoàn Kết Elementary School. You will also find Hòa Bình Market and Nguyễn Công Trứ Green Market here.

The most developed area is Phố Huế. Here stands Chợ Hôm. This large market got its name because it originally only traded in the late afternoon. Over time Chợ Hôm grew. It adapted to Hanoi’s expanding inner city. Its offerings became much more diverse.

Phường Phố Huế shares borders with several other wards. Ngô Thì Nhậm lies to the north. To the south are Cầu Dền and Thanh Nhàn. Bùi Thị Xuân and Lê Đại Hành border it to the west. Đồng Nhân is to the east.

In 2021, Phường Phố Huế had a population of 8896. Its area is just 0.2 square kilometers. This results in a high population density of 44480 people per square kilometer.

Phố Huế itself is considered a civilized trading street. This reflects its economic importance. Property values here are high. This is especially true along Phố Huế road. The area features mostly low-rise buildings. High-rise apartments are rare.

Shops line Phố Huế. They create a bustling atmosphere. You can find fashion, food and furniture here. Hotels and jewelry shops add to the mix. Even banks have a presence on this busy street.

Property prices on Phố Huế can reach half a billion đồng per square meter. Sometimes they are even higher. Despite the high cost demand often exceeds supply. Finding property for sale can be difficult.

The Thái Bình building is one notable structure. It is located at 2 Đại Cồ Việt. This 11-story building has two basements. Construction finished in 2009.

Phố Huế stretches 1266 meters. It runs from the intersection of Hàm Long and Hàng Bài streets to Đại Cồ Việt street. The road cuts across Nguyễn Du, Trần Nhân Tông, Tuệ Tĩnh and Tô Hiến Thành streets.

Historically Phố Huế was part of a road. This road connected Thăng Long with southern provinces. In the 19th century it passed through several villages. These included Phúc Cổ and Giáo Phường. Later the villages of Đông Hạ and Yên Thọ were added.

In 1890, the street was called Route de Hué. In 1945, it was renamed Phố Duy Tân. After the liberation of the capital it became Phố Huế. The name honors the former capital city of Huế.

Traces of old villages remain. You can find them in local temples. Đình Phúc Cổ is now 14 Nguyễn Du street. Đình Giáo Phường is 83B Phố Huế. Đình Đông Hạ is at 133 Phố Huế. Đình Yên Nhất is 260 Phố Huế.

Phường Phúc Cổ was mentioned in historical texts dating back to 1371. Giáo Phường was home to musicians. The Đào family from Thanh Hóa lived here. They taught singing and organized professional performance groups. These groups were known as Giáo Phường.

Đình làng Đông Hạ is well-preserved. It honors the Cao Sơn deity. Đình Yên Nhất honors Phạm Phụ Quốc. He was a hero who fought against invaders.

Phố Huế ends at Ô Cầu Dền. This was a gate in the wall surrounding Thăng Long. In 1831, the gate was called Ô Yên Ninh. By 1866, it was renamed Ô Thịnh Yên. However locals continued to call it Ô Cầu Dền.

Today Phố Huế is bustling. Chợ Hôm is a major market. In the late 19th century it was a smaller market. It only operated in the afternoon. It mainly sold vegetables and fish. As the city grew Chợ Hôm expanded. Villagers sold poultry near the market entrance. This section of Phố Huế became known as Hàng Gà. To distinguish it from Hàng Gà Cửa Đông it was called Hàng Gà Chợ Hôm.

Phường Phố Huế is more than just a place on a map. It is a living story. It is a blend of ancient history and modern life. As you explore remember the layers of time beneath your feet.
