Kim Liên, a name that resonates with history and culture, beckons us to explore its vibrant tapestry. Here in the heart of Hanoi’s bustling Đống Đa District, Phuong Kim Lien stands as a testament to time. It’s a place where tradition meets modernity, where ancient tales intertwine with the rhythms of contemporary life. Phuong Kim Lien is more than just an administrative ward. It’s a living, breathing entity, shaped by the ebb and flow of centuries. Phuong Kim Lien, as we know it today, is home to over 18,000 residents. It represents a diverse community, a blend of long-established families and newcomers, all contributing to the rich social fabric of the area. This vibrant mix creates a dynamic atmosphere, where the old and the new coexist in harmony. Within Phuong Kim Lien lies the revered Kim Liên Temple, a guardian of Hanoi’s southern gateway. This temple, also known as Cao Sơn Temple, holds a special place in the city’s spiritual landscape. The temple is dedicated to Cao Sơn Đại Vương, the Lord of High Mountain. Legend tells us of King Lê Tương Dực, who, while on a mission to quell a rebellion, sought the blessings of Cao Sơn Đại Vương at an ancient temple. The king’s prayers were answered, his mission successful. In gratitude, he commissioned the construction of Kim Liên Temple. Originally, Kim Liên Temple’s festival spanned from the 11th to the 16th day of the third lunar month. Today, the main festivities are concentrated on the 16th, the birth anniversary of Cao Sơn Đại Vương. The celebrations blend traditional rituals with lively folk games, drawing visitors from near and far. The temple also houses a remarkable collection of 39 royal decrees. These decrees, spanning the Lê and Nguyễn dynasties, confer titles upon Cao Sơn Đại Vương. The oldest of these decrees dates back to 1620, offering a tangible link to Vietnam’s rich imperial past. Today, the temple not only honors Cao Sơn Đại Vương but also pays tribute to the Mother Goddesses and President Ho Chi Minh. Phuong Kim Lien, with its vibrant community and historical significance, stands as a microcosm of Hanoi itself. It’s a place where the past whispers stories to the present.
