Phra Samut Chedi Subdistrict Municipality boasts a rich history. Its namesake temple Phra Samut Chedi. This was built between 1827 and 1828. King Buddha Loetla Nabhalai Rama II oversaw its construction. The temple originally sat on an island in the Chao Phraya River. Hence its nickname Phra Chedi Klang Nam meaning chedi in the middle of the water. Today the island is connected to the mainland.
