What if I told you that this ship-shaped structure, the Philippus-Kirche, was once a beacon of faith in Düsseldorf? Today, we stand before the Philippus-Kirche, a remarkable building that has witnessed the changing tides of time. Inaugurated on the first Advent of 1964, the Philippus-Kirche served a growing community in a “new” Lörick. It served as a stark contrast to the traditional village character of old Lörick. The very design of the Philippus-Kirche reflects this blend of old and new. You can see how the architect, Hans Junghanns, incorporated a nautical theme. The building has a distinct bow and stern, reminiscent of a ship navigating the waters of time. There was once a pond bordering the church, further emphasizing this imagery. Sadly, the Philippus-Kirche held its last service on September 29, 2919, due to a decline in churchgoers. However, its legacy lives on. The Gemeindezentrum, a community center attached to the Philippus-Kirche, continues to host gatherings and events, ensuring that this space remains a hub of activity.
