Founded in 1988 the Philippine International Church stands as a testament to faith and community. Its story began not in a grand building but in a Brookline apartment. A small Bible study group of eight people gathered there. They dreamed of a vibrant Filipino ministry in New England. Their first service was held two months later. It marked the launch of the Massachusetts Bible Fellowship. This fellowship would evolve into the Philippine International Church we know today.

The early years were a journey of growth and relocation. The church moved several times finding temporary homes in various Boston area churches. They held evangelistic meetings. They organized community events like the Unity in Diversity rallies at Boston Common. These events helped to build bridges with other local churches and the wider community. They even marched in Boston Against Drugs and participated in the March for Jesus.

The Philippine International Church wasn’t just about sermons and services. It was about building bonds. Their first retreat took place in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Ski trips were organized. A tambourine ministry was formed adding a unique dimension to their worship services. The church also fostered a spirit of mission. They sent delegates to Filipino Christian camps. They supported the formation of an Indian fellowship showcasing their inclusive spirit.

Through all of the moves and growth challenges there was always a sense of community. The church went through different pastors. Willy Marquez was instrumental in the early days and then returned later in the church’s history serving until his death. The church endured loss with resilience. Their annual retreats provided strength comfort and healing. They celebrated baptisms at Walden Pond and Houghton’s Pond. These were moments of shared joy and spiritual renewal.

Today the Philippine International Church stands at 187 Church Street in Newton. It is a thriving congregation that continues to share God’s love. Its story is one of perseverance faith and a deep commitment to community. It is a place where the warmth of Filipino culture meets the universal message of Christianity. The church continues to grow in numbers and spiritual maturity a living testament to the power of faith and community.
