Dive into a story of faith and community here at Philipp-Melanchthon Kapelle. This unassuming chapel holds a special place in Berlin-Rudow’s history. Let’s explore its origins and the role it played in a growing community.

The Philipp-Melanchthon Kapelle started as the “Evangelisches Gemeindeheim Philipp-Melanchthon”. It was a community center for the Berlin-Rudow parish. The dedication took place on October 27, 1935. Back then, this area was sparsely populated.

As the population boomed, the community center needed more space. An extension was added in 1937. Today, that extension houses a kindergarten. This shows how the Philipp-Melanchthon Kapelle adapted to the changing needs of its neighborhood.

In 1975, a new community center was built next door. This eased the spatial constraints. It allowed the parish to expand its activities. The architect Hardy Treger designed the new building.

A significant change occurred on August 1, 1969. The Philipp-Melanchthon Kapelle was separated from the Rudow parish. It was then integrated into the Dreieinigkeitskirche parish. This church is located in Gropiusstadt. Today, it belongs to the Neukölln church district.

The building complex now consists of two parts. There is the chapel and the former nurses’ residence. The residence now serves as an office. The former community center has since been sold.

The church has a rectangular layout with a gable roof. A small bell tower is in front of the southern corner. Inside the tower are two bells. The smaller bell dates back to the original dedication. The larger one was replaced in 1960. The original had been melted down during World War II.

You can still feel the sense of peace. The Philipp-Melanchthon Kapelle offers moments of reflection. It is open every Friday. People come to pray, meditate, or simply enjoy the quiet atmosphere. You can even light a candle.

Many pastors have shaped the community. Else Müller served from 1946 to 1964. Pastor Friedhelm Gutknecht reformed worship. He involved younger members. Christian Wienzeck helped people connect with the church. Thomas Spiegelberg served until April 2018. Karin Singha-Gnauck was responsible since the 2010s. Nora Rämer is now the managing pastor.

The Philipp-Melanchthon Kapelle continues to be a vital part of the community. It offers a space for faith, connection, and quiet reflection. As you leave, remember the layers of history within these walls. It has been a center of community. It has been a place of worship. The Philipp-Melanchthon Kapelle stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith.
