From a small village to a bustling IT hub that’s Perungudi for you. Perungudi in Chennai is more than just a neighborhood. It’s a microcosm of Chennai’s dramatic transformation. Three hundred years ago a few clans settled here. Today software engineers call Perungudi home. It’s located strategically. The Old Mahabalipuram Road borders it on two sides. The Perungudi lake is nearby. It sits right on the Old Mahabalipuram IT Expressway. Perungudi is part of Chennai’s IT corridor between Taramani and Thoraipakkam.

Perungudi’s population exploded. It grew from roughly 8000 in 2000 to over 43000 just a decade later. This rapid growth though hasn’t been without its challenges. Perungudi still struggles with infrastructure. It lacks adequate storm drainage. Piped water isn’t always reliable. Roads could be better. Yet Perungudi thrives. The World Trade Center Chennai is here. Major IT companies like Amazon have offices here. Thanthi TV also has a presence.

Perungudi has a fascinating duality. It’s a modern IT center yet it grapples with older problems. One of Chennai’s two major landfills is in Perungudi. Garbage burning is a persistent issue. This landfill sadly affects the Pallikarnai marshland. It’s a home to numerous birds both local and migratory. The city plans to close the dump but it’s a complex problem. There are plans to add new bus routes to better connect the interior areas like Kamaraj Nagar. The MTC connects Perungudi to other parts of Chennai. Buses like the 19B 102 and 19A already serve the area.

Despite its challenges Perungudi continues to attract residents and businesses alike. Its strategic location and proximity to other areas like Palavakkam Thiruvanmiyur Adyar and Velachery make it attractive. Perungudi’s story is a testament to the dynamic energy of Chennai. It’s a blend of old and new growth and challenges. A story of transformation still unfolding right before your eyes. This is Perungudi.
