Journey back to a time when Perpustakaan Sultan Ismail, or Sultan Ismail Library, was a bustling hub for book lovers. My father, sister, and I were regular members. We frequently borrowed books from this library on Jalan Datin Halimah. Around 2007, we shifted our membership to the new Johor Baru Public Library on Jalan Yahya Awal. It offered a wider selection of newer books. Perpustakaan Sultan Ismail held a special place in our hearts though. Years later, after publishing my trilogy, “My Johor Stories,” I wanted to donate a set to the library. I contacted Datin Patricia Lim Pui Huen, a Johor historian. She suggested donating the books to Perpustakaan Sultan Ismail’s Malaysia Collection. This set in motion a chain of events. I connected with Tengku Tarmizi, who then introduced me to Johor Baru’s Mayor, Dato’ Noorazam. The Mayor graciously accepted the books on behalf of Perpustakaan Sultan Ismail. He then entrusted the books to Tengku Tarmizi, who placed them in the Malaysiana Collection. My trilogy now rests within the walls of Perpustakaan Sultan Ismail, a library that once nurtured my own love of reading. It stands as a testament to Johor’s rich history and a place where stories continue to unfold.
