“What if a rooftop could hide a secret world?” Let me tell you about the Perpetual Garden. It is not just any garden. This garden in Kuala Lumpur holds a secret. It is a place of peace above the city’s hustle.

The Perpetual Garden was revealed on May 25, 2009. Before that, its creation was a secret. It was planned in complete secrecy. Now, it is open to everyone.

This unique garden sits atop the 1 Utama shopping mall. It is seven floors up. Imagine a former car park transformed. Dr. Francis S.P. NG, an award-winning botanist, designed it. He still manages the garden using eco-friendly methods. Recycled water helps the garden thrive. Biochar soil enhances the plant growth.

Over 500 plant species call the Perpetual Garden home. You will find shrubs, palms, and herbs. Aquatic plants and epiphytes add to the variety. There was even a pond once home to the world’s largest water lily. Dragonflies and guppies lived there too.

The Perpetual Garden uses no harmful pesticides. It is accessible to everyone. The design accommodates push chairs and wheelchairs. Admission is free. It is a gift to the public.

It is a sanctuary away from city life. Visitors can enjoy a calm atmosphere. They can breathe fresh air. The Perpetual Garden can re-energize mind, body, and soul. It allows you to smell the roses.

The garden is also educational. Each plant has a label. The labels show the scientific name, common name, and origin. Visitors learn how plants grow in different conditions. They can see hydroponics and vertical gardens.

Many indigenous plants grow here. You’ll discover ground orchids and jungle bananas. These are from Peninsular Malaysia. Herbs, ferns, and fruit trees represent Malaysia and Borneo. A lift ride to the roof of 1 Utama will reveal all of Malaysia’s plant life.

Le Nouvel towers also feature green design. Patrick Blanc designed vertical gardens for these towers. The towers showcase 243 climbing plant species. This brings nature into the urban environment.

Whether it’s the rooftop haven of 1 Utama. Or the vertical gardens of Le Nouvel. Kuala Lumpur blends city life with natural beauty. The Perpetual Garden stands as a serene escape. It’s a secret gem open for all to discover.
