Founded in 1921 the Los Angeles Holiness Church stands as a testament to faith. Six young Japanese immigrants and one American-born Japanese founded this church. They prayed for the salvation of Japanese immigrants in America. Their prayers birthed a vision a church of their own. Initially located in a small house near 36th Place and Denker Street it grew. By 1936 meetings spread across West Angeles. These meetings became the foundation of the West Los Angeles Holiness Church officially established in 1955. The Los Angeles Holiness Church isn’t just a building. It’s a story of perseverance and devotion. The church purchased a Greek Orthodox church in 1951. This building still serves as their sanctuary today. In 1966 an education building was added next to the chapel. The church initially served only Japanese speakers. However Reverend George Yahiro a bilingual minister became the first English-speaking minister in 1945. This led to both English and Japanese congregations. A Spanish-speaking congregation also joined the community. The Los Angeles Holiness Church is the mother church of the OMS Holiness Church of North America. This denomination focuses on Japanese and Japanese Americans. Today its membership includes Asian Americans and other ethnicities. The church is more than a place of worship. It is a vibrant community. It celebrates fellowship through luncheons potlucks and annual picnics. The Los Angeles Holiness Church continues its legacy. It nurtures faith through prayer Bible study and various ministries. The church’s commitment to prayer and community has remained constant throughout its history. The Los Angeles Holiness Church continues to grow and evolve. It stands as a beacon of hope for all. It embodies the unwavering spirit of its founders.
