Free entry. That’s the first thing you notice about Penglai Park. A welcoming gesture in the heart of Shanghai. This isn’t just any park though. Penglai Park boasts a rich history. It opened in 1953 a haven for local residents. It’s undergone many changes since then.

Imagine the park in its early days. A simpler space. A community gathering place. Then came the challenges. Years of wear and tear took their toll. Typhoon Matsa dealt a serious blow. The park closed for repairs.

But look around you now. The revitalized Penglai Park is bigger. It’s expanded from 27000 square meters to 35000. Seven traditional pavilions stand proudly. Two are new additions keeping with the park’s original style. Ancient stone carvings adorn the park. These relics span centuries. They date back to the Yuan Dynasty and even the Qing Dynasty. Park employees carefully collected these treasures. They gathered them from areas surrounding Shanghai and Jiangsu Province.

The Qingshang Pavilion is a standout. This pavilion was erected during the Qing Dynasty. The park is more than just old buildings and stones. It’s a green space a quiet oasis amidst the city’s energy. It’s free for everyone to enjoy. It’s a reminder that even after hardship renewal is possible.

Penglai Park tells a story of resilience. A story of community. A story of preserving the past for the future. Take a moment to breathe. Take in the details. Appreciate this quiet piece of Shanghai’s history. A place where history art and nature converge. It’s a truly special place.
