The Penghao Theater welcomes you like a home. Once a private residence, it retains a cozy atmosphere. Tables, chairs, food, and beverages invite you to relax. Yet, it also houses a performance space. Penghao Theater’s budget reflects its independent spirit. The annual operating budget is around two million RMB. Performance costs range from 40,000 to 80,000 RMB. Small, independent theater companies often grace its stage. Around 50 plays are performed each year totaling about 240 stages. Wang Xiang contributes a third of the budget from personal funds. He even sold a house and mortgaged another. He is dedicated to keeping the theater alive.
