Ever wondered what secrets lie within the walls of Pelikan Bamberg? For centuries, it has stirred the imagination and interest of the city’s residents. Medieval writings reveal a surprising fact. Around 1400, the venerable old Sand owned Bamberg’s first brothel where the Pelikan stands today.

By 1763, this purpose had faded into distant memory. The building was first named “Wirtshaus zum Pelikan”. Then, in 1979, it became simply “Das Pelikan”. Its fame and popularity have grown as large as they were 600 years ago. Today, it is an integral part of the vibrant restaurant and pub culture.

A diverse crowd gathers here. They come to sit together, drink, and engage in lively discussions. Since 1994, fresh Asian WOK cuisine has been added to the mix. It is worth checking out the menu. The Pelikan offers variety and comfort. This creates a dynamic atmosphere. It reflects the house motto. “Untertauchen, Auftauchen, Weiterfliegen” which means “Dive, Emerge, Fly on”.

Pelikan Bamberg is more than just a restaurant. It is a Slow Food supporter. You can find it at Untere Sandstrasse 45. This is in the heart of Bamberg. The restaurant serves Asian dishes from the wok. They use local products. One example is the Slow Food Presidi potato. It is called Bamberger Hörnla.

For over 45 years, locals, students, and travelers have met at the Pelikan. Everyone comes together to linger. They meet in the wood-paneled dining room or in the wine-covered garden. The Franconian-Asian wok cuisine provides much to savor. There are also many regional beers. A diverse wine selection is available. You can also enjoy select spirits and a colorful range of organic juices and lemonades.

Now and then, tables and chairs are moved aside. People dance to the sounds of changing DJs. The Pelikan also hosts special events. There are Fasching dances with various DJs. There is even a Kinderfasching for children.

The Pelikan is open daily from 5 PM. The kitchen is open until 10 PM. Wednesday is a day of rest. The Pelikan invites you to immerse yourself in its unique charm. Experience the blend of tradition and modernity. Enjoy the diverse culinary offerings. Let yourself be carried away by the lively atmosphere. Discover why the Pelikan has been a beloved Bamberg institution for centuries.
