The leading literary figures of his time were among his friends. Salinas was a key figure in the Generation of 1927. This group included Jorge Guillén and Federico García Lorca.

His first poems appeared in Prometeo. Other volumes of his poetry include Presagios and Seguro azar. Also La voz a ti debida and Todo más claro y otros poemas.

Salinas defined poetry as an adventure toward the absolute. He valued authenticity beauty and wit in poetry. He preferred short verses and rarely used rhymes.

Pedro Salinas is considered the great love poet of his generation. He saw love as a force that enriches both the lover and the beloved. With love he thought life gained plenitude and reason.

Salinas also wrote prose and plays. During his exile he wrote “La bomba increíble”. It is a novel about the horrors of the atomic bomb.
