Peck Park is named after George H. Peck. He was a notable landowner and developer. Back in 1929, Peck began donating land to the city. This generous act led to the creation of Peck Park. The park’s dedication happened in 1933. It was a grand ceremony that honored George H. Peck.
But Peck Park wasn’t his only gift to San Pedro. He also gifted land for Leland Park and Alma Park. These parks are named after two of his children. The Peck family’s legacy lives on through these green spaces.
Today, Peck Park offers many facilities. There is a swimming pool for those hot California days. You will also find a baseball diamond for sports enthusiasts. Basketball courts, both indoor and outdoor, are available too. If you love hiking, Peck Park has extensive trails. These trails were improved and dedicated in 2013 as the Ray Patricio Memorial Trails. Ray Patricio was an activist. He lived next to the park and worked hard to preserve it.
The Peck Park gymnasium got a redesign in 1997. Koning Eizenberg Architecture, Inc. designed it. Besides all these features, Peck Park also includes a child care center, barbecue pits, picnic tables, a football field, a jogging path and a skate park.
Peck Park is the largest of four parks in San Pedro named after the Peck family. Point Fermin Park was once called Peck’s Park. George H. Peck privately owned it. In 1923, the citizens of San Pedro bought the park from him.
