A story of faith, unity, and mission unfolds here at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church. This church began as a merger of two Pasadena Lutheran Churches. First Evangelical Lutheran and Sharon Lutheran joined together in 1993. The two churches came together to expand their ministry. They aimed their mission to new areas of the Pasadena area.
In 1995, Peace Lutheran Church constructed its present sanctuary. It expanded with a new education building in 2001. The members of Peace Lutheran come from all walks of life. They come from diverse histories.
Peace Lutheran Church is rooted in a life-transforming story. It is an ancient story and a timely one. It tells of a powerful and patient God. He has boundless love for all people. God brings justice for the oppressed. The story centers on Jesus Christ. He changes lives. It is a story of comfort and strength. It supports people living in modern times. These times are often unsettling.
Peace Lutheran offers many ministries. Adult Learning provides Bible lessons and topical studies. These take place Sunday mornings, evenings and Wednesday mornings. The Wednesday morning study dives deeper into the worship texts. It prepares for the upcoming Sunday. Everyone is welcome to these studies.
Sunday School offers classes for all ages. Its purpose is to instill a lifelong faith formation. The classes are small. Teachers volunteer from the congregation. They value each person as a child of God. They respect each one’s gifts and growth.
Confirmation instruction is available for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Peace Lutheran’s program begins in August. It concludes in May.
Peace Lutheran welcomes children to the Lord’s table. They come when their parents feel they are ready. The church offers age-appropriate instruction. This helps them understand the meaning. During their third-grade year, special classes are offered. These classes help them discover the joy of this “means of Grace.”
The church offers support and guidance to those experiencing loss. For members, a light meal is offered after the funeral. It provides comfort and fellowship.
Men of Peace gather for a meal. They discover what it means to be a Christian man. This group has many opportunities. They enjoy fellowship and scripture study. They serve in the local community.
Women of Peace also gather. They discover what it means to be a Christian woman. This group fellowships and studies scripture. They engage in crafts and serve the community. They help women discover their Christian calling.
Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church members participate in prayer groups. They support the ministries of the church. They pray for its members and the world. This group prays for the church and Houston area ministries weekly.
The church provides many service opportunities. Members help Pasadena Community Ministries. They assist Habitat for Humanity. They support Lutheran World Relief and Sarah’s House. They aid many other ministries in the area.
Stephen’s Ministry provides one-to-one Christian care. Trained members offer support. They care for the bereaved, hospitalized, and terminally ill. They also support the separated, divorced, unemployed, and relocated. They minister to others facing crises or life challenges.
The Youth and Family Ministry offers opportunities for youth and families. The goal is to guide children. They teach them about the Christian story. They focus on Lutheran heritage.
