Established in 1974 Payap University stands as a testament to perseverance. It’s a remarkable institution. Payap University wasn’t built overnight. Its story began much earlier. The seeds were sown in 1888 with the founding of the Thailand Theological Seminary. This seminary later became the McGilvary College of Divinity a core part of Payap University. Imagine the dedication it took to nurture this dream for decades. The Church of Christ in Thailand played a pivotal role. They had a vision for a Christian higher education institution. They wanted to create a place where morality and service were valued above all else. For over 50 years their plan faced many challenges. But in 1969 a new law changed everything. The government allowed private institutions to establish universities. This opened the door for Payap. In 1970 the Church acted quickly upgrading existing schools to become part of a college. They received official approval to establish Payap College on March 21 1974. The first class had 189 students. These students came from all over Thailand from 15 provinces. Payap’s rapid growth led to it becoming Payap University in 1984. It was the first private university in Thailand a significant achievement. The university’s philosophy centers around “Truth-Service”. It strives for academic and moral excellence. It aims to produce graduates who are ready to serve society. Today Payap University is a global institution. It has a diverse student body representing many countries. Payap’s Mae Khao campus is expansive. It has numerous buildings and impressive facilities. There’s the Luce Chapel the Center for Arts and Culture and the University Central Library. The Kaew Nawarat campus is smaller yet significant. It houses the McGilvary College of Divinity and the McCormick Faculty of Nursing. Payap University isn’t just an educational institution it is a pillar of the community. It has an extensive archive of documents related to Protestant missions. This is a treasure trove of history. Payap University even offers training for US veterans. It’s a dynamic thriving university. It has a strong global presence. Payap University’s enduring legacy is a testament to faith perseverance and a commitment to education and service. It’s a story of vision realized and a place that continues to inspire and empower.
