The Paul-Gerhardt-Kirche was consecrated on June 21, 1964. The architects Luther and Pitroff designed the church. They also designed the parish house, community center, and kindergarten. All these buildings form a single complex.
Before the Paul-Gerhardt-Kirche was built, there was a change. In February 1964, the third parish position at St. Ulrich became independent. This led to the creation of a new parish. This new parish needed its own church and community spaces.
In 1987, something else happened. The Stephanuskirche community center in the university district was consecrated. This center belonged to the Paul-Gerhardt-Kirche parish. The parish continued to grow.
As of January 1, 2009, the Paul-Gerhardt-Kirche parish had two positions for pastors. It had 3446 members. This shows how important the church was to the community.
Today, the Paul-Gerhardt-Kirche is still active. Services are held every first Sunday of the month at 11:00 AM. Around 50 to 100 people attend. The services are in German. There is no childcare available during the service.
