Did you know that the Paul-Gerhardt-Haus in Chieming has seen its fair share of drama? This house has been standing here for over five decades. Some local evangelicals remember a time before its foundation stone was laid on Easter Monday in 1957.

Let’s step back in time a bit. Just a few years after World War II, the first Protestant services took place in a barrack camp near Pfeffersee. These barracks were torn down in 1956. That same year, the church acquired this land on Am Hagen 1. The community decided to build a Wohnkirche, a church that incorporated living spaces.

The idea was to provide new homes for displaced people on the ground floor. Upstairs, the church would offer a spiritual home for believers. The cornerstone was placed on April 22, 1957, and the Paul-Gerhardt-Haus was consecrated on August 11 of the same year.

Over the years, the Paul-Gerhardt-Haus in Chieming has become dear to many. However, not everyone has always appreciated it. There were even multiple attempts to have it demolished. For a long time, the regional church didn’t see the need to renovate the church. Despite this, donations from members and visitors poured in. After much debate, a compromise was reached with the regional church. Finally, in 2011, the renovation of the Paul-Gerhardt-Haus began.

The atmosphere inside is peaceful. People feel a sense of security here. The high tent roof is especially striking. So is the stunning front window. It depicts the scene of Pentecost. People come and go from this house regularly. The community here is strong.

The Paul-Gerhardt-Haus stands as a testament to faith, community, and perseverance. It overcame many obstacles. It provides not only a place of worship. It is a symbol of hope and belonging for the people of Chieming. It is a place where memories are made, and spirits are lifted.
