Completed in June 2014, this 22,057-square-foot facility cost around $12 million. Patriot’s Casa is not just military friendly. It is “military embracing.” The university even trademarked the phrase. Texas A&M University-San Antonio is deeply committed to supporting its military community.
Inside Patriot’s Casa, one finds a nurturing environment that goes beyond the typical veterans affairs office. It’s an academic home for the brave. The building houses offices for Military Relations, Advancement, and Communications. Adjacent are the offices of the A&M-San Antonio ROTC Corps.
The “Stables” within Patriot’s Casa provide administrative and professional support. There is also space for study and recreation for cadets. Here, they prepare to graduate and become military officers. Confidential counseling is available for veteran students and their families. It helps them adjust to civilian life. Services include family and couples counseling plus childcare resources. Special family-oriented events honor military dedication. These services are designed to increase the success rates for veterans transitioning to civilian life.
Studies show relaxing recreational spaces help relieve PTSD symptoms. Patriot’s Casa provides state-of-the-art media centers and open event venues. These allow veteran students to connect with others like themselves. Cutting-edge multimedia and computer labs are available. Group study lounges and activity rooms encourage interaction between military and civilian students. Faculty and staff benefit from this open atmosphere.
The facade of Patriot’s Casa was inspired by elements of Missions San Juan and Espada. This design reflects San Antonio’s rich history and the university’s commitment to its community. During the opening ceremony, guests received a special coin and book commemorating the facility. Volunteers from the Texas Military Forces Museum were present. They wore vintage military uniforms and brought memorabilia dating back to World War I. Guests were encouraged to hold and examine these artifacts.
Patriot’s Casa is more than a building. It is a symbol of the university’s dedication to those who have served. It provides the resources and support needed to thrive in academia and beyond. So step inside Patriot’s Casa. Experience the embracing atmosphere for yourself.
