Pasadena Memorial High School opened its doors in 2003. It quickly became a vital part of the community. The school serves grades 9 through 12. It’s the second-largest high school in the Pasadena Independent School District. Many affectionately call it simply “Memorial” or “PMHS”.

The school boasts a remarkable team of educators. Nearly 200 teachers bring years of experience to their classrooms. The average teacher has 12 years of teaching experience and 8 years at Memorial specifically. They aren’t just teachers they are mentors. They create a supportive environment where students thrive.

More than 2900 students attend Memorial. They come from diverse backgrounds forming a rich tapestry of cultures and perspectives. The student-teacher ratio is quite manageable allowing for personalized attention. Each student gets the help they need to achieve their potential. The school offers a robust curriculum preparing students for college or careers. Extracurricular activities abound. Students can join sports teams clubs or pursue artistic and technological interests.

The campus itself is impressive. It sits on 80 acres. The design is clever. It has three main segments. The first houses classrooms and administration. The second holds the music and drama departments. The third houses the cafeteria and vocational labs. Two lovely courtyards offer outdoor spaces for students and staff.

Memorial has experienced significant growth. A new wing was added in 2006. A field house for the football team was also constructed. Portable classrooms have become necessary due to increasing enrollment. Security has been upgraded with more cameras and on-site officers. A bond in 2014 helped fund an Early College High School wing which opened in 2017. This expansion addressed overcrowding. The school was originally designed for only 2000 students.

The school spirit is undeniable. Students proudly wear teal black and gold. The school mascot is Roxy and Renegade. The school’s fierce pride is often described as “Bleeding Teal”. Memorial’s athletic programs are strong. The football team has had remarkable success under various coaches including John Snelson. Memorial even had the district’s first female varsity football player Tara Cole. She was a star kicker and later played for Sam Houston State University and a professional women’s league.

Pasadena Memorial High School is more than just a school. It’s a community. It’s a place where students learn grow and become leaders. It’s a place where the spirit of the Mavericks soars high. It’s a testament to the power of education and the dedication of its students faculty and staff.
