Parroquia Santísima Trinidad

Amidst the vibrant tapestry of Madrid, the Parroquia Santísima Trinidad stands as a testament to faith and architectural evolution. The Parroquia Santísima Trinidad wasn’t always the structure you see today. Its story began on October 28, 1956, when it was officially established. The first stone was laid on Christmas Day, 1957, by Bishop José María García Lahiguera, amidst the nascent buildings of the neighborhood. The original vision, conceived by architect Jaime De Ferrater Ramoneda, was a grand temple. However, only the crypt was initially completed. The Parroquia Santísima Trinidad remained in this state until a significant transformation began in 1983. Architects Andrés Perea Ortega, Fernando Ruiz Bernal, and Cristóbal Vallhonrat Anduiza spearheaded the project, culminating in the inauguration of the current church building on February 26, 1984. Prior to this, services were held in the chapel of the Montpellier school. The evolution of the Parroquia Santísima Trinidad continued. In 1987, the priests’ residence, known as the “Ed. Del Espíritu Santo,” was built. Later, in 2002, the “Ed. Del Hijo” was added, housing pastoral halls and Caritas residences. The Parroquia Santísima Trinidad isn’t just a singular entity. It lends its name to an archpriesthood encompassing five parishes: San Ireneo, Virgen del Lluc, Virgen del Coro, San Alejandro, and itself. The parish boundaries were definitively set on April 11, 1996, by Archbishop Antonio María Rouco Varela. These boundaries stretch from Avenida de América along Calle Torrelaguna to Parque Calero, then down Calle Virgen de África to the M-30 along Avenida de Badajoz. The church has witnessed a succession of leaders. In 1975, Father Luis Narganes Seco took the helm, followed by Father Ignacio Jordán Donlo in 1976. In 2004, Father Luis Fernando Niño Del Portillo became the third parish priest, with Father Dionisio San José Fernández serving as vicar from 2006. The current parish priest, Father Ángel Luis Caballero Calderón, assumed his position on September 25, 2016. He has been accompanied by Father Felipe Manuel Nieto Fernández, and later by Father Fco. Javier Jiménez Cerro and Father Jesús Rafael García Riera. Currently, Father Alessandro Da Silva Nascimento serves as an adscrito. Over the decades, the Parroquia Santísima Trinidad has been a hub of social and pastoral initiatives. From support groups for families struggling with addiction to employment assistance programs and the establishment of Asispa, a senior care organization, the church has played a vital role in the community. It even provided religious services for the M-30 funeral home until 2006. The Parroquia Santísima Trinidad continues to serve its community with diverse projects for all ages, encompassing educational, spiritual, and social support. The annual parish festival, a beloved local event, is held on the weekend of the liturgical feast of the Holy Trinity. It features a vibrant mix of traditional celebrations, concerts, and community gatherings.
