Envision yourself transported back to April 10, 2016. It was the third Sunday of Easter. The Parroquia San Pedro Bautista celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Today we celebrate the Parroquia San Pedro Bautista. It is a testament to faith and community in Alcorcón.
The celebration was led by Bishop Don Joaquín María López de Andújar y Cánovas del Castillo. The church was packed with people. Fr Juan Carlos Moya also attended. He was the Minister Provincial of the Franciscan Province of the Immaculate Conception in Spain. Five priests currently serving the parish were there. Franciscan brothers and former parish priests joined the festive event. They came from various fraternities.
Reflecting on the origins of Parroquia San Pedro Bautista reveals Alcorcón’s transformation. It evolved from a satellite town dependent on Madrid. It lacked social infrastructure. Now it is a modern city. It boasts hospitals, health centers, a university and metro. It offers easy access to transport and communication.
Bishop Don Joaquín María expressed gratitude to the Franciscan Order. He thanked them for their service to the neighborhood. He acknowledged their contribution to the Getafe diocesan church.
The dedication of the temple was on March 19, 1976. It coincided with the Solemnity of Saint Joseph. The then-cardinal of Madrid, D Vicente Enrique y Tarancón, officiated.
During the 40th-anniversary Mass, Bishop Don Joaquín María blessed an image of Saint Joseph. It depicted him with the Child Jesus. This image would remain in Parroquia San Pedro Bautista. It would serve as a reminder of the 40th anniversary.
The Franciscan community appreciates the presence of Bishop Don Joaquín María. They are thankful for Minister Provincial Fr Juan Carlos Moya. They also appreciate the Franciscan brothers who attended. Special thoughts went to those who could not attend. Among them was Fr Jesús Sanz. He is the Franciscan Archbishop of Oviedo. He was ordained in this very Parroquia San Pedro Bautista in 1986.
The church offers confessions. They are available on Fridays from 9:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 22:00. Confessions are also heard during Mass and upon request.
Parroquia San Pedro Bautista provides accessibility with a ramp. Special celebrations include Via Crucis. This takes place on Fridays of Lent at 20:00. There is also a procession-Via Crucis. This happens on Viernes de Dolores at 19:00.
The Franciscans have been present in Alcorcón for decades. They continue to serve the community. Parroquia San Pedro Bautista stands as a symbol of their dedication. It represents faith. It embodies community spirit. It honors San Pedro Bautista. He gave his life for his faith.
