The cornerstone rests. A silent testament to faith. This is the Parroquia San Martín de Porres in Iquitos.

Its story begins not with grand pronouncements but quiet dedication. In 1963 Father Ramón Dagoberto Quiñones started visiting the San Juan Bosco community. They held Mass in an empty lot. Later a family offered their home. It’s a humble beginning for this significant church. The Parroquia San Martín de Porres is more than just a building. It embodies the spirit of a community.

Father Ramón Encinas arrived in 1967. He surveyed the community. He formed catechism groups. He secured land for a church. The first building was flimsy. It collapsed. Undeterred the community rallied. They hired engineer Jorge Gómez del Campo. He designed a stronger structure. The cornerstone was laid on April 18 1969. Archbishop Carlos Quintero Arce presided. It was a major step forward. The Parroquia San Martín de Porres was taking shape.

Father Hugo Montaño Terán continued the work. In 1973 the Blessed Sacrament Chapel and a confraternity were established. Many priests served the Parroquia San Martín de Porres over the years each adding their unique contribution. Father Manuel Portela served for eight years. He established ten sectorized centers. He fostered a strong sense of community.

In 1987 Archbishop Carlos Quintero Arce elevated the church to parish status. Father Teodoro Enrique Pino Miranda became the first parish priest. The Parroquia San Martín de Porres officially began a new era.

Subsequent priests continued to improve the parish. They renovated buildings. They provided services to the community. The Parroquia San Martín de Porres stands today a vibrant hub of faith and community life. Its history is a testament to persistence and devotion. The humble beginnings were transformed into something beautiful. It’s a story etched not just in stone but in the hearts of the people of Iquitos. The Parroquia San Martín de Porres is a beacon. A testament to the enduring power of faith.
