Here we are at Parroquia Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Pino. Inaugurated on the day of San Pedro June 29 1968 this church has been a beacon of faith in Villaverde Alto. The Parroquia Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Pino moved to its current location in 1981 due to urban growth. The creation of this parish alongside San F\u00e9lix and Santa In\u00e9s highlights the rapid expansion of Madrid during that time.
The Parroquia Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Pino celebrates its patron saint on September 8. This is the day of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. This day is marked with special festivities. The community gathers to honor their patroness.
Originally the Parroquia Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Pino had a small plaster image of the Virgin. It was beautiful despite its size. Today this original image resides in the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament. It is a reminder of the church’s humble beginnings.
The current statue of the Virgin venerated here comes from the workshops of Santa Rufina in Madrid. This wooden carving shows the Mother holding her Son. Her open arms symbolize her welcoming embrace to all parishioners. The image embodies the inclusive spirit of the Parroquia Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Pino.
A Carmelite nun of Charity of Vedruna donated the image. She was deeply devoted to the Virgin Mary. She originally wanted to build a chapel for the image. Lacking funds she sought donations in central Madrid.
The nun visited the Parroquia Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Pino. It was for a novice’s vows ceremony. Noticing the church lacked a Virgin Mary image she changed her plans. Around 1984 or 1985 she donated the statue.
The Parroquia Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Pino also displays an icon of 36 saints. These saints represent the 402 martyrs of the 20th century in Madrid. They stand under the glorious Cross. The Virgin of Almudena flanked by San Isidro and Santa Mar\u00eda de la Cabeza surrounds them. The silhouette of the Almudena Cathedral represents the diocesan church of Madrid.
A relic of Blessed Ces\u00e1reo Elexgaray de Otazua is also permanently displayed here. He was a martyr and member of the Congregation of the Mission. His presence reminds us of sacrifice.
Many groups and activities thrive within the Parroquia Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Pino. Three Neocatechumenal Communities serve with dedication. A Prayer and Praise Group a youth group a Bible study group and altar servers are all active. The catechesis program focuses on involving parents. The goal is to foster a living faith experience.
Every first Saturday of the month the parish hosts a school of evangelization. This provides Catholic faith formation. It helps attendees strengthen their Christian lives. It encourages them to share their faith.
Each year on September 29 the feast of the Archangels Michael Gabriel and Raphael the ministries receive a special blessing. Acolytes readers catechists and Caritas workers are included. This blessing recognizes their service in the name of the Church. It acknowledges the Holy Spirit’s support.
