Initially attendance was high. Around 350 people regularly attended services. In a district with 12000 inhabitants. However active participation dwindled over time. Priests weren’t always local. Some came from Madrid. Others from further afield. The role of the church changed. It became more focused on social work and human development.
A man named Jaime Garí made a significant mark. He served as the parish priest in its early years. His leadership laid the foundation for the church’s future. Around 30 active volunteers support the parish today.
Parochial collaboration was key. The five parishes in the Puente de Vallecas-Palomeras Bajas district joined forces. They meet monthly for coordination and shared pastoral efforts.
