From the heart of Poland to the bustling streets of Madrid, the story of the Parroquia de San Estanislao de Kostka is a testament to faith and devotion. The Parroquia de San Estanislao de Kostka stands here as a beacon of hope, a tribute to a young man whose unwavering belief shaped his destiny. Born in 1550, Stanisław Kostka faced challenges in pursuing his religious calling. His journey led him from Poland to Germany, where he fell gravely ill in 1566. Fearing death without receiving the sacraments, he prayed to Saint Barbara. Legend says, in answer to his prayer, Saint Barbara appeared with angels, one carrying the Eucharist. Kostka received communion. During his illness, the Virgin Mary and the child Jesus also visited him, reassuring him of his recovery. Mary then told him that God’s will was for him to join the Society of Jesus. He eventually reached Rome, welcomed by the Superior General of the Jesuits, San Francisco de Borja. He spent nine months as a Jesuit, known for his piety and dedication. He died in August 1568 at the young age of 18. The Parroquia de San Estanislao de Kostka, established on May 15, 1965, honors his memory. The church, located on Calle del Doctor Esquerdo, serves as a reminder of his unwavering faith.
