“This church feels different,” a woman whispered, her gaze sweeping over the vibrant murals of Parroquia Cristo Redentor. It did have a unique energy. This parish church, established on January 27th, 1971, holds a special place in the heart of Iquitos. The Parroquia Cristo Redentor wasn’t always housed in this impressive structure. It started as a humble wooden chapel named San Fernando.
The original chapel, built within the “San Fernando” sector, eventually became the Parroquia Jesús Maestro in 1969. Later, as the community in the El Paraíso urbanization grew, a new chapel dedicated to San Vicente de Paúl was built. This chapel, under the administration of the Parroquia Jesús Maestro, eventually became the Parroquia Cristo Redentor we see today. The church’s anniversary is celebrated every year on the 19th of March. It’s a testament to the enduring faith and community spirit of the people who call this place their spiritual home.
