Spanning over 3 kilometers the Parque Lineal de Palomeras offers more than just a walk in the park. It is a unique space designed to transform and improve its surroundings. Let me tell you more about this green haven in Madrid.

Parque Lineal de Palomeras is not just any park. It is a modern landscaped area. Its construction in 1988 was deliberate. It aimed to soften the acoustic and visual impact of the M-40 highway and the A-3 highway. Imagine the noise and the sight of these major roads. The park acts as a green barrier.

The park’s creation is quite ingenious. Architects Manuel Paredes and Leandro Silva used rubble from the area’s urban development. They formed hills that add variety to the landscape. These hills also help to block the noise from the highways. Think of them as a green screen. They separate the park from the hustle.

The Parque Lineal de Palomeras features large meadows and ten plaza areas. Two artificial lakes enhance its beauty. The East Palomeras Lake has an irregular shape. It surrounds a circular plaza. Four vertical water jets add a playful touch. Once, a wooden bridge crossed its narrowest point but it was removed. The South-East Palomeras Lake mirrors these features. It is slightly larger. Both lakes originally had wooden bridges that were later removed.

In the center of the circular plaza stands a sculpture. It is called Totemic Sculpture I. Mexican architect Fernando González Gortázar created it in 1987. He specialized in urban sculpture. A playground and exercise equipment surround the sculpture. A similar sculpture, Totemic Sculpture II, stands by the South-East lake. This one resembles a tree.

For sports enthusiasts, Parque Lineal de Palomeras offers many options. You can cycle, jog or play petanque. There are two skate parks. Two bike cross obstacle courses provide more challenges. A climbing wall is under construction.

The park also caters to children. Five playgrounds are spread throughout. The one near Villalobos street is especially fun. Kids can enjoy a zip line.

Parque Lineal de Palomeras forms part of Madrid’s Green Ring. This cyclist path connects Fontarrón Forest Park and Entrevías Forest Park. Along the way, cyclists find rest areas. These have water fountains and benches.

From the high hills of Parque Lineal de Palomeras, impressive views unfold. You can see the south of Madrid. Cerro Almodóvar, Villa de Vallecas, Cerro de los Ángeles and Getafe are all visible.

The Parque Lineal de Palomeras is more than just a park. It is a space where nature art and recreation come together. It provides a tranquil escape from the city.
