Hear the echoes of faith. Feel the weight of history at Paróquia São Francisco de Assis.

This isn’t just any church in São Paulo. Paróquia São Francisco de Assis stands as a testament to community resilience and unwavering devotion. Established on October 25 1941 it slowly grew with the help of its parishioners. They donated benches images and even the bell. This bell called the faithful to acts of faith.

The official inauguration was on June 29 1941. Frei Afonso Turges became the first vicar. His leadership was dynamic. He established the Pia União das Filhas de Maria and the Apostolado da Oração. He secured donations for the chapel. His efforts resulted in a generous donation of the church bell from the Nogueira de Sá family. Parishioners also contributed 24 benches. Images of São Francisco de Assis Santo Antônio de Pádua and Nossa Senhora de Fátima were added.

Sadly Frei Afonso’s tenure was cut short by illness. Frei Honório Nacke replaced him in 1942. Frei Honório was known for his wisdom and piety. He further energized parish associations. He also founded the Externato São Francisco de Assis. This school operated for almost 40 years. It provided primary and kindergarten education to neighborhood children. The school was housed in a building donated by Abílio Araujo Vieira. Vieira also donated the parish house.

Paróquia São Francisco de Assis continued to improve over the years. It boasts a spacious hall used for charity bazaars. It also offers social support to needy parishioners. This church has always been a vital part of the community. Its enduring legacy continues to this day. It is a place where the spirit of São Francisco de Assis lives on. A beacon of faith hope and charity in the heart of São Paulo.
