The suburb was named after Henry Parkinson, a railway engineer who was a key figure in the development of the local rail system. Parkinson is a relatively young suburb of Brisbane. It was mostly bushland until the mid-1990s when urban development began in earnest. The suburb is located 14 miles south of the Brisbane CBD and borders Logan City. It was once an area of dense bushland. You can still see some remnants of the original bushland in some areas. These days, though a large part of the suburb is residential, with some parkland. The southern part of Parkinson has industrial development. It is a pretty diverse suburb, too! At the time of the 2011 census, almost half of the residents were born overseas in countries including New Zealand, England, South Africa, China, and India! However, the majority of people in Parkinson speak only English at home. The suburb might be young, but it has certainly already made its mark as an important part of Brisbane. It is a thriving suburb with a bright future, and it is one of the fastest-growing outer suburbs of Brisbane!
