Parcul Titănel is located in the Titan neighborhood of Sector 3. Its history is somewhat mysterious. Locals recall its creation between 1975 and 1977. The park spans about five hectares. It is bordered by Bulevardul Nicolae Grigorescu and the streets Burdujeni and Prisaca Dornei.
Over time, Parcul Titănel has had a few names. “Titănel” is a popular one still used by locals. It was also known as Parcul Copiilor because it was initially designed for children.
In the 1990s, a fountain was a central gathering spot in Parcul Titănel. A Summer Theater hosted many children’s shows. There were magic acts and plays. Painting and poetry contests entertained the young audience. The theater had about 70 seats. A small amusement park stood near the entrance. It featured a carousel, a trampoline, and other attractions. A small train offered rides. Cotton candy was sold in various colors and shapes.
Once, a cylindrical structure stood about 15 meters high. It had three slides. Children loved climbing inside this structure. They would use stairs to reach the top. Animated characters made of metal welcomed visitors. These figures stood about 20 meters tall.
After 2000, Parcul Titănel underwent renovations. It was officially renamed Parcul Titanii. A major attraction is “Aleea Celebrităților” or the Alley of Fame. This imitates the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Stars bear the names of Romanian literary and art figures. You will find names like Mihai Eminescu and Constantin Brâncuși. Each star includes the celebrity’s birth and death dates.
Today, Parcul Titănel features eight playgrounds. There are also basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts. These are free to use. Three fountains add to the park’s charm. The main fountain is rectangular and has five water jets. Another fountain is round with a single jet. A stone fountain has platforms where water flows down.
Near the basketball and volleyball courts are large aquariums. They are set into the walls of a small building. Various fish swim in these well-lit tanks.
At the main entrance on Nicolae Grigorescu Boulevard stands a tall wooden structure. It is circular and surrounded by benches. The Summer Theater is now a ruin. Vendors sell ice cream and refreshments along the park’s paths.
