What secrets does Parco di Baggio hold? Parco di Baggio isn’t just a green space. It’s a story whispered through the leaves of ancient mulberry trees. Right here, in the heart of Milan, this park stands as a testament to Baggio’s rich history. Parco di Baggio occupies the center of what was once the old village of Baggio.

Parco di Baggio was officially established in 1964. However, its roots stretch back centuries. Before the park, there was a farmstead. This farmstead emerged from the ruins of an Olivetani monastery. The monastery was suppressed in 1773 under Austrian rule. The farmstead thrived until the mid-20th century.

The park’s creation involved planting the surrounding meadows and restoring the monastery walls. This saved the structure from demolition. Today, it houses part of the local police force. The monastery itself, founded in the 13th century, has seen many transformations. Despite this, it retains traces of its centuries-old past. You can still see hints of its 15th-century structure. It currently houses part of the local police force and offices. You can also find the Baggio Public Library next to Parco di Baggio. It is considered one of the best-stocked libraries in Milan.

Parco di Baggio isn’t just about history. It’s a vibrant part of Milanese life. The park boasts a variety of trees. Three old mulberry trees stand as reminders of the farmstead’s silkworm breeding. You’ll also find hackberry, poplar, red oak, English oak, Atlas cedar, black pine, Judas trees, elm, cherry, beech, hornbeam, Japanese pagoda tree, black locust, sycamore, and horse chestnut trees. There’s something for everyone at Parco di Baggio. Children can enjoy the playground. Dog owners can utilize the designated dog area. There is even a fenced-in basketball and volleyball court.

Every year, during the third weekend of October, Parco di Baggio becomes the heart of the ancient Sagra di Baggio. This festival, dating back to 1628, is one of the oldest in the Milan area. The festival is organized in collaboration with the local council and the city. Parco di Baggio is more than a park. It’s a living story, inviting you to explore its past and present.
