Across the expanse of northwestern Montreal, discover the captivating Parc-nature du Bois-de-Liesse. This sprawling nature park, established in 1984, covers 158 hectares, encompassing parts of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Dorval, and Montreal boroughs like Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Pierrefonds-Roxboro, and Saint-Laurent. Parc-nature du Bois-de-Liesse isn’t just a collection of trees and trails. It’s a living testament to the area’s rich history, intertwined with the story of the former municipality of Côte-de-Liesse. This municipality, later divided into Dorval, Lachine, and Saint-Laurent in 1957, lent its name to the park. The name “Côte-de-Liesse” itself connects back to Liesse-Notre-Dame, a village in France, adding a touch of European heritage to this Montreal gem. At the heart of Parc-nature du Bois-de-Liesse stands Pitfield House, the park’s reception center. Constructed between 1952 and 1954 by the architectural firm Archibald, Illsley, and Templeton, this building witnessed the transformation of the area. The Montreal Urban Community acquired Pitfield House in 1979, solidifying its role in the park’s story. Imagine strolling through the park’s diverse landscapes, following the tranquil flow of Bertrand Brook. Parc-nature du Bois-de-Liesse invites you to explore its enchanting forest, home to ancient and rare trees like the black maple. These silent giants stand as witnesses to the passage of time, whispering tales of the past. As you walk, consider the echoes of the past. The land remembers the footsteps of indigenous peoples, the arrival of European settlers, and the growth of the surrounding cities. Parc-nature du Bois-de-Liesse offers a peaceful escape from the urban bustle, a place to connect with nature and history.
